Chronic Halitosis (or Chronic bad breath) is a persistent condition which has been said to affect something like 25% of the population in varying degrees. Chronic halitosis is seen as a result of an overpopulation of bacteria in the mouth/throat area that produces smelly sulfuric compounds.

From Dr. Harold Katz's research:
"Continuing research has corroborated our findings on chronic halitosis: Bad breath, in nearly all cases, is due to anaerobic sulfur-producing bacteria, breeding beneath the surface of the tongue, and often in the throat and tonsil area. Unfortunately, the side effect of this chemical breakdown can easily be detected as bad breath or sour/bitter/metallic tastes, because the breakdown chemicals are odorous compounds (Volatile Sulfur Compounds) such as Hydrogen Sulfide (the rotten egg smell), Methyl Mercaptan (an odor associated with garlic or smelly gym socks), and more rare chemicals such as cadaverine and putrescine. (Yes, those are real terms!)"

The way Dr Katz treats chronic bad breath / chronic halitosis is to add oxygen. His method prevents the anaerobic bacteria from creating the odorous sulfide and Mercaptan compounds by "adding oxygen" to the environment that the bacteria live in. The end result is the formation of a "Sulfate", which has no odor or taste...... and this can be achieved by doing as little as changing your toothpaste.
